What We Do
To regenerate the critical thinking and the unwavering hope of the next generation.
To make healthy relationships the priority through programs that foster individual empowerment, parental engagement, and community support for risk avoidance strategies.
In biology, regeneration is the regrowth of an injured or missing part. Regeneration in persons who have experienced various degrees of physical, mental and/or emotional injury requires resiliency (the ability to bounce back). That is what we nurture in the hearts and minds of the youth and families we serve through our programming at ReGen Next.
In 2011, Alternatives of Kalamazoo, a non-profit pregnancy resource center, added a sexual health educational component in response to the higher than state average rates of teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties, respectively. The goal of the ReGen Next campaign was to decrease the statistics by encouraging youth to avoid risk behaviors like teen sexual activity, alcohol misuse, and illicit drug use and to think more critically about the formation of healthy relationships. As our Education team learned more about the protective factors that are integral to positive youth development (PYD), we realized that our efforts must not only provide information for teens but must also include resources for parents and community.
ReGen Next, LLC was formed in 2018. And, now, due to the continued growth of our outreach and influence beyond our local community, ReGen Next INC was established in December 2021 and is becoming an independent 501c3. Our team is excited about the possibilities!
Through classroom instruction, presentations and workshops, we strive to improve the health, academic and life outcomes of youth by equipping them with the tools, information, and support that will empower them:
a) to recognize the traits of healthy/unhealthy relationships
b) to delay the age of sexual debut
c) to voluntarily refrain from other youth risk behaviors, like underage drinking, illicit drug use and violence
d) to understand the harmful relational, emotional and societal effects of pornography, sexual exploitation and abuse
We empower parenting teens and adults in their role as the primary educators, protectors and guides of their children by providing educational workshops and parenting classes that offer strategies which increase levels of parent-child connectedness and inspire healthy decision-making.
And, through the implementation of social marketing strategies, we create a culture in community which shifts social messaging from the normalization of unhealthy behaviors and risk (harm) reduction to the prioritization of healthy relationships and risk (harm) avoidance.
